Will my iron door knocker rust and bleed onto the door paint?

Iron needs to be cared for properly. There are a few products you can coat your iron door knocker with the slow or halt the oxidation process that causes iron to rust. In the spring you should check your door knocker to make sure there is no winter damage. If rusting occurs, sand the rusted area and follow instructions on one of the rust retardant paints readily available on the market. Paint the door knocker again with rust retardant paint to prevent future rusting.
